The best thing about having lectures on Non-linear optics from 5 - 7 pm is that my mind starts wandering to other things and in this case it wandered to the double harmonic major scale.

Basically the formula for double harmonic major scale is 1 b2 3 4 5 b6 7 and Even though it has a 7 and not a b7 in it you can use it over Dominant 7th chords(E7 for example).

The fifth mode of double harmonic major, which is called Oriental I believe, has the formula 1 b2 3 4 b5 6 b7. I was thinking, even though it has a b5 in it, it may be possible to use it over the dominant 7th chord as well.

So for example E double harmonic major followed by E Oriental over E7.

I haven't tried it yet but it may sound pretty cool.
