Is add9 the same thing as 9, or would 9 act like a dominant 7 were you'd have to flat the 9th?
add9 is a minor or major triad where you add a 9th. A 9 chord is a chord which consists of a minor or major triad with a minor or major seventh and a 9th. If you mean a dominant ninth it's a major triad with a minor seventh and a ninth.
