add9 is a minor or major triad where you add a 9th. A 9 chord is a chord which consists of a minor or major triad with a minor or major seventh and a 9th. If you mean a dominant ninth it's a major triad with a minor seventh and a ninth.

I would say not really but I guess I would say to start with chords you are already familiar with
