What's up fam? So recently my mental health has gone into a steep and scary decline. And I never realized until I got this low how much music has helped me over the years. I came real close to saying "fuck this life" and I happened to hear "In The Light" by Zeppelin. And I realized that there is hope out there. This isn't the end. I wonder how many other times music has pulled me out without me even realizing it. Anyone else experience this? What music/artists have helped pull you back up and kept you going?
It happens.

Unbound(The Wild Ride) has by far the most motivating set of lyrics. Give it a listen and make the lyrics your motivation ;)

I can't believe I never listened that closely to the lyrics before. They are motivating.
It's an underrated song, but it hits me so much when I try to search for the most motivating song possible when I was at my lowest. I have not heard any other song that is full-on positive like Unbound.

Like, other songs would mentioned positivity but will also mention some dark moments. It's fine to show that the songwriters face dark times too, but the listener may extract that negative bit instead and not the positive message. Unbound is just something else.

It's truly an amazing song and soooo underrated! The lyrics "No one can ever slow me down. I'll stay unbound." have been my motto since the first time I listened to the song. I love the message behind it.

At this same time last year I was having some really hard times and this situation lasted for a couple months. Metallica's Hero of the Day (specially the S&M version) and Low Man's Lyric were songs that I used to hear daily when this happened, alongside with live performances of Fade to Black, and this songs helped me a lot during this rough period. Thankfully, after all these desperating times, everything got better, despite some little consequences that looks like nothing compared to what we went through 🖤 But these songs remain special and meaningful to me and they'll be forever between my all time favorite songs 🖤

Also, I'm the kind of person who always takes all the responsibilities to herself instead of sharing it with others and I end up doing more things than I can really handle. So another Metallica song I can relate so much to is My Friend of Misery, I see myself in some verses of this song and specially the chorus (You insist that the weight of the world should be on shoulders) always makes me think 🤔

    It really does!
Now that you spoke about it, when I think about my decision to begin learning music again after so many years, this song always comes to my mind, it's one of my favorites 🖤 Thank you for remembering me this by the way 😹💖 it's one of my favorites and it's a song that means a lot to me too 💞

Thank you for sharing this 🖤💫 My contact info is in my bio if you ever want or need support. Definitely call if need be- sometimes i struggle with checking social media for various reasons. Honestly nothing has helped me more than music during those times, aside from this community in general (this past week or so has been pretty hard- not the hardest by far, but definitely a struggle). A7x, My Chemical Romance, and Alice Cooper have been my main source of life-sustaining juice.

Wow, never would have caught that without this pointer. I'm not a huge lyrics guy. Being an Aspie, I sometimes miss a lot of hints, especially emotional beats, on things. Lots of songs, even if I know the lyrics by heart, I couldn't tell you what the song is ABOUT, which is probably why I've struggled to try and WRITE anything lyrically - I wind up writing shit that reads like a textbook or something.

But with the right pointer, I can see it, and now I have a new love for Unbound - a 14 year old song I've heard and sung along to countless times. THANKS MAN!

I was gonna start a new thread for this, but then as I was naming the thread, this one came up, and there's just so much great content in this thread that's worth revisiting, that I wanted to put it here.

Andy Timmons, as you may have heard from me and others, is an absolutely brilliant guitarist. Yeah, he's got chops, but it's his feel, phrasing and TONE that set him apart from so many others. He talks here about his own struggles all his life and it's just a frank and open discussion, as it should be.

As he says, a lot of people from our generation (yeah, I'm closer to his age than Syn's age. PG is still the old-timer) grew up with mental health and depression being taboo topics for discussion, and a lot of people who didn't need to suffer and die... Did. Getting to a place where it's not taboo is huge progress. I've just started some medication for depression and anxiety, which is a new concept to me. I didn't even realize it was there until it really started affecting me physically, and the last few years have been a long, hard journey.

I don't talk about it because I feel so fortunate in so many ways, it seems petty to get into my problems, but it doesn't really work that way.

Anyway, have a look at the article. Go listen to some Andy and play some guitar. Be well, friends.

In some cases, music does help improve mental health. But my condition was a little worse. So I turned to specialists for help. And without leaving home I had a video chat therapy, which helped me a lot. It is very difficult for me to tell people about my problems, but being in my own territory I was able to open up. And the psychologist did online therapy with me. It was quite a successful experience, because I was able to improve my mental health.
