Pick resistance and smooth movements

    Greetings and salutations!
One of my favourite main focuses over the past year or so has been on picking (alternate, economy, etc) but one thing I have noticed is that my pick tends to almost get caught on the strings if you will.
Sounds weird I know but essentially what I mean is that it seems as though the movement over strings is rather jerky as apposed to the pick gliding over the strings with little resistance.
Any tips on how to get the movement more fluid?

Without seeing an up-close example, I can only give general advice. First, your goal with each movement is not to “hit the string.” Your goal is to “move through the string” to get your pick to the other side in a straight line. Subtle difference, but the way you THINK about it has a measurable and definite effect.
Second, pick depth. You could be getting “too much pick.” I use EXTREMELY close grip, because it’s just how I got used to it and I love pinch harmonics, so it’s a natural fit. But if more than 1/8 of an inch of pick is below the string plane, you might be digging too deep and getting hung up there.
If none of that makes any sense, you need to post a close-up video for reference.

Thanks you to, I have definitely tried to do pick slantjng but it is something that I have neglected for a while, will have to get back to work and maybe do a progress video on it.
As for mindset and picking height I would say I dig in due to my aggressive rhythm technique and pinch harmonics, I am usually pretty good at switching when necessary so it should be pretty easy to do both, I will try and think of the string as non existent so i focus on the end note and not all the notes inbetween.
