    Matter of personal preference and feel. At least 3 with those strings, but 4 if you want a firmer feel on the bar. Either way, you want to make sure the bridge is parallel to the top of the body when the guitar is perfectly in tune, and that would be managed by the two screws holding the springs' "claw" to the body of the guitar in the trem cavity.

    Neat trick: I’ll take a spring out for a couple days to help with my solos. Makes the 6 sounds scratchic and less rooted. Really helps if you know how to systematically envelope suspense and tenor tone for music.

    that’s with a classic strat tho—I have a les Paul too but there’s no bending the rules back and forth for another run at a dancing dead sounding solo or anything from WTF
