Is this normal and what kind of effect does this have on the sound/guitar?

The motion made to use it is different so the sound is a bit altered too, what I'm guessing.
Not sure if I remember it right but he liked his guitar cause it was sturdy among other things.

What do you guys think or has anyone tried it?

I just noticed it, the screenshot is from a concert video from 1985, Live at Montreux.

    Take care! 🕊️

All I can say is that SRV was a huge Hendrix fan, and therefore definetly wanted to pay a little tribute to him. Maybe function wise the reverse whammy bar, on a fender specially, may have a bigger or lesser effect on the lower strings perhaps? I heard that Hendrix preferred a righ handed guitar strung lefhanded because the lower strings would have more tension on them. (Which may be the origin of the reverse headstock guitars)
