  • Question
Were there guitars with fading pinstripes

Hey guys,
I am currently looking for what guitar to buy, and planned to most likely go for the Syn Custom S, maybe black gold, maybe white black, not sure yet.
I heard something, that there was a model once, I think it was for the black and golden ones, where the pinstripes faded.
Was this a thing, or is it still a thing? OR was it just some people being bad at caring for their instrument.
I really love the paint job and the sound, and want to get the guitar, but I don´t want to get surprised by fading paint.

Transcribing and translation team

I was wondering if the staff already has a date to gather the volunteers as a team to start the subtitles process. I mean, I got plenty of time in my hands right now and I could utilize this to work with other people to bring this to life ASAP. Even if the subtitles can't be available in the videos for a while, because of website host/platform issues whatsoever, at least the transcribing/translation work could be done already, so this would become a reality sooner. When can we expect the official post for the volunteers team?

String height and other issues

Hello everyone! So I'm feeling the strings of my guitar are a bit too high when I play. I measured the height (don't know if I measured it right tbh) between the top of the 12th fret and the low E string and it's 3 mm. Is it really too high or is this height considered normal? If it's too high how can I fix it? I tried reading about this but I fear trying to fix it on my own and getting things worse because I never did anything on my guitar before and have absolutely no clue of what I should do 😬

Also, I tuned my guitar, played an open string and it says it's on tune, but when I play the 12th fret it says it's too sharp. How can I fix this issue too?

Playing and singing

Hi, guys!
I'm trying to learn how to play Hurt, by Johnny Cash, and I wanted to sing too. But I'm having some trouble because Johnny had this deep, low voice, and I can't sing some of those low parts. And, since the song was arranged based on his voice, I figured I needed to change the tones of my guitar strings, so it would be more comfortable for me to sing. That's what's been making my mind go crazy for the past days. I was studying a bit of music theory, but I still can't fully understand some definitions, like key, pitch etc... And I don't know how to conciliate both instrument intonation with vocal intonation.
Does anyone have tips about it, or any recommendations of videos or texts I can use to study it?
I am not trying to be a professional singer, I just wanna be able to know how to adjust a song to my vocal range (and identify my vocal range in the first place - from what I've read, I'm a mezzo-soprano, but I'm not sure how to apply this to my playing).

Phrasing and Dynamics

Hey I have been paying attention to how good players sound and what makes them sound better.
I've realised that they are great phrasing and amazing dynamics. So I have been working on phrasing lines and make melodic phrases but I have difficulty connecting my phrases to make it sound like a complete story. Any tips to work on the same??

  • Question
Finger is muting string while Playing chords.

I'm not sure what the issue is here. Are my fingers fat? Is it ultimately my technique? I'm not sure how to solve this problem. It's really difficult to play chords because the tip of my fingers keep touching the open strings and muting them, making the chord sound flat and dull. I've always had this problem playing guitar.

Buying my first electric guitar

Hey guys, I'm new here and I've been playing guitar (a nylon string guitar) for some months. I want to buy an electric guitar but I have trouble choosing one. My budget is around 400-450 euros. So far I found two guitars that I liked. The first one is the Ibanez 470 and the second one is the ESP LTD M-200FM. Can anyone help me choose which one is better or maybe suggest another one ?

String tension and playing fast

This is one for @Ed Seith. My EVH has 9-42 strings now and I tuned down 1/2 step, and of course there’s more slack in the strings which I normally like. But trying to play certain things, like a fast pedal point lick, I feel like my pick gets “stuck” trying to go across the strings due to the extra slack and I can’t get the lick up to speed. I’m assuming going up a string gauge would eliminate that. Any experience with that?

Switching between regular tuning and drop D.

Hello, I have a question. I own a Schecter Synyster Custom-S guitar with a Floyd Rose bridge, which as we know makes retuning a lot of work. And frankly I'm not good at it. I'm currently tuned to drop D and I figured that there is enough space to tune the lowest string back to E (to regular tuning) using only the small screws on the bridge. This way I could quite comfortably switch between my two favourite tunings. Is this a good idea ?

Schecter Diamond Synyster Gates Custom S - E and A string swing (?)

Hi Guys,

I just received my new Schecter Diamond Synyster Gates Custom S Satin Gold Burst.
When I play e.g. only on the higher e string, the lower e and a string start swinging too (please check out the corresponding video: IMG_0670.mp4 on Vimeo).
As I used to play an Epiphone Les Paul Standard before, I am not sure, whether the described behavior is "works as designed" or a flaw of the product.
In the case of my epiphone all the other strings remain steady when I play the higher e string (or any of the higher strings).

Would be great if anyone familiar with a Schecter SynGates Custom S could give me feedback, if that happens with other guitars of this model as well?

All the best,
Christoph
