Combining major and minor thirds

When you have to solo over power Chorde is it possible to combine major and minor thirds. So for example over an A5 you can rest on a C and a C#. And will it work the same way with major and minor sevenths?

So i actually tried i and it sounds Pretty cool and especially a bit weird, So i like it. Now I’m still wondering why it works from a theoretical ppint of view. I hope some of the theory gurus can help me out with this because I would really like to know
