Picks

So I just recently started using a Jazz pick in my playing. And I find that it makes for more speed. What is your preferred pick?

I prefer picks that are from 0.5- 1.0
But my favorite must be the tortex 0.5 (the orange one).
But depends on the day, or what I am playing.
Sometimes I try to keep switching picks in order to study or to learn a difficult solo.

I usually use 2.0 gator grips but sometimes I swap over to Kirk Hammett Jazz III’s for more speed at the cost of a little comfort.

Literally whatever is lying around, I tend to use 0.8 ish. I just need to find the best all rounder.

I used 1.14 and i thought i needed a thicker pick to play those chugging metal riffs but now i switched to .73mm because it feels way better in my hand.

I personally can’t play anything under .8 comfortably unless im only strumming because of the flop. I don’t know if there’s a way you can hold the pick to fight that but it makes the pick feel sluggish to me, like its dragging over the strings rather than picking them. Just my opinion!

I used a 1.14 Tortex Jazz III for a while to help correct some picking problems, but as a rule I stick to thick. Currently it’s the Ultex Jazz III. It’s between 1.5 and 2.0 mm thick, but I don’t know exactly. It doesn’t flex and they last for weeks of hard playing. Sure, they’re the color of stale piss, but nothing’s perfect.

Looked it up real quick and there are ultex jazz III’s in black that are 2.0 mm but the stale piss ones are 1.38

In the sampler I got, there was one of those 2.0 blacks. They feel different. Too slippery and very plasticky. I didn’t care for them. I did also just discover a white Tortex 1.5 I’ll try out, and I’ll also re-evaluate my old faithful, the 2.0mm Jazz Stubby (I used those for 25 years).

Holy jesus that’s a lot of time to use the same pick! I started out with 3.0 mm stubbies but the grip wasn’t quite right, then I went over to gator grip .96s which felt great but were a little lacking in width, then I used the Kirk Hammett ones as my primary ones for like a month until I discovered the gator grip 2’s and just became addicted. I still have a lot of picks I wanna try out but it takes time to get a good reading on each one

I would agree with Dan. Literally anything that is lying around and it’s 0.71. I like the tortex one though.

I switch between the gator grip 2.0, the Jazz XL and the Kirk Hammett Jazz picks. Does anybody know what pick Syn is playing now? He used to play the gator grip, right?

Yeah he used gator grip 2’s but now hes using tortex .73s I think

I just recently picked up a pack of Ernie Ball Prodigy picks in 2.0 mm thickness. I can say without a doubt that these are the most precise and comfortable to hold picks I have ever used. Highly recommend.

I finally found the one for me after going between 0.81 0.88 and 2mm it is clear the one is 2mm, I don’t worry about how I hold the pick and it everything sounds even.

I‘ve tried so many different picks but the black Dunlop Nylon (1mm) or the yellow Dunlop Tortex (0,73mm) are the ones i use the most often.
